Armstrong Farms is one of my favorite rustic wedding venues! I met Kimberly and Jonathan at Armstrong Farms’ bridal open house last fall and we hit it off right away! This amazing couple was planning a wedding for March at Fieldstone barn and we had no idea if it was going to be spring with lots of flowers in bloom or a blizzard! Weather in Pennsylvania can be unpredictable, but these two knew the only thing that was important was that all of their family and friends were together. The morning of the wedding came, and it was forty degrees with strong wind gusts. The girls all got ready at the farmhouse right on the property at Armstrong Farms, and the guys got ready at the Drake house.
Kimberly’s dress was custom designed just for her with illusion mesh sleeves and lace applique. She carried a brooch bouquet down the aisle decorated with pearls, crystals, and an M for her new last name. Her blue Ralph Lauren heels matched her blue engagement ring perfectly. Since it was a chilly wintry day, she accessorized with a fur wrap and a pair of yellow hunter rain boots just for the outdoor photos. (You don’t host your wedding at a beautiful outdoor venue like Armstrong Farms and then not get photos outside, even if the weather is cold enough to make your teeth chatter!)
My favorite part of their wedding day was their choice to do a first look before the ceremony and write personal letters to each other. We picked out the perfect spot at the barn at Westminster Preserve (Armstrong’s other wedding location) and they arrived separately. We had Jonathan stand with his back turned while Kimberly made her way to the barn and then the two of them exchanged letters and read them back to back just before turning around and seeing each other for the first time.
The only thing better than first looks between the two people getting married, is a father daughter first look !! The lower level of the barn was decorated and ready for the ceremony thanks to Rustic Chic Decor & More . We took advantage of the glowing candles and clouds of baby’s breath for some sweet moments between Kim and her father as well as family portraits. For the ceremony, Kimberly added a cathedral length veil as an extra special touch.
When the ceremony ended, instead of bubbles or throwing rice, Kimberly and Jonathan had all their guests write special messages on tags and tie them to balloons which they released to carry all their love and good wishes to the open sky.
The inside of the barn was glowing with string lights and candles. Rustic Chic Decor made a beautiful bench for guests to sign instead of a guestbook. They also had a custom farmhouse sweetheart table with lanterns for the bride and groom. As beautiful as the whole room looked – I wish you could have smelled the amazing aromas wafting from the dessert display from Mainstreet Bake Shop. Smores brownies, naked cake pops, cupcakes, oatmeal raisin cookies, salted caramel bars, and more! I don’t do my job just for the cookies…but let’s just say -it’s a perk ! The centerpiece was a naked cake for two decorated with blackberries, mint, and sage leaves next to a rose gold cake knife and server.
After dinner, Fireside Events lit up the dance floor and guests got to enjoy a whiskey and cigar bar out on the back porch. Kimberly changed into her second dress of the evening, a soft satin v neck with pockets!!
